Laclau and Mouffe (2001: vii–xix) argue that a viable alternative to neoliberalism can arise only if the various social movements’ alternatives coalesce. In order for coalescence to occur, the different philosophical/political logics of the alternatives (for example, socialism, anarchism, ecologism, feminism, indigeneity and multiculturalism) have to establish a chain of equivalence.
